Top ECM Parameters Every Shop Should Adjust on a New Diesel Truck

Buying or receiving a new truck straight from the factory? Don’t assume it’s optimized. Manufacturers ship diesel engines with default ECM settings that may not match your driving style, routes, or fuel efficiency goals.

Here are the top ECM parameters every shop, fleet, or owner-operator should consider adjusting using a diesel laptop.


🔧 1. Road Speed Governor (Top Speed Limit)

Set it based on your route, fuel strategy, or company policy. Most new trucks come capped at 65 or 68 MPH.

🔧 2. Idle Shutdown Timer

Turn it off for PTO operations or extend it to reduce restarts. Default is often 5 minutes.
